Spring COVID-19 vaccine eligibility

B.C.’s COVID-19 spring program is expected to run from April 22 to July 31, 2026. The program provides vaccines to residents who are at highest risk of severe illness and complications from COVID-19, based on recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization

While one dose of the vaccine during viral respiratory illness season in the fall and winter offers strong protection for most people, an additional spring dose is strongly recommended for people who could get seriously sick, including:

  • Adults 80 years and older
  • Indigenous adults 70 years and older
  • Residents of long-term care homes and assisted living facilities and those awaiting placement
  • People 6 months and older who have been diagnosed as clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV 1 or CEV 2)

The following people may also benefit from a spring COVID-19 booster:

  • Adults 65 years and older
  • Indigenous adults 55 years and older

If you are 65 years or older and registered in the Get Vaccinated system, you will receive a notification once they go out in late April.

If you have questions about your eligibility for a COVID-19 immunization, check with your health care provider or phone the call centre.

Where can I get immunized

Starting in late April, people can get their COVID-19 vaccines in various health facilities throughout the province, including:

  • Community pharmacies
  • Regional health authority clinics
  • Some primary care providers’ offices
  • Community health centres
  • Long-term care homes and assisted living facilities
  • Community health centres or nursing stations in First Nations communities
  • Public health units (for children under 12)

If you haven’t received a COVID-19 immunization in B.C.

Register in the Get Vaccinated system to receive your notification to book an appointment and to stay up to date with your influenza (flu) and COVID-19 immunizations. You can register yourself or someone else, like a parent, grandparent or child.

Understand my vaccine options

Vaccines available in B.C.

COVID-19 mRNA vaccines were updated for the 2025-26 season based on the LP.8.1 variant. Health Canada has a thorough approval process to make sure approved vaccines are safe and effective.

The spring COVID-19 immunization program offers the same COVID-19 vaccines as the 2025-26 respiratory illness season – Moderna Spikevax and Pfizer Comirnaty.

Find the latest approved vaccines in Canada

I want a non-mRNA vaccine

Non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are currently not available.

If you are not able to receive an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, speak to your health care provider about treatment options if you get sick with COVID-19.

Vaccines for children and youth

COVID-19 vaccines are an important part of your child's routine immunization schedule.

Your child can get the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time as other childhood vaccines, including the influenza (flu) vaccine. If you have multiple children, they each need their own appointment.

Plan to be at the appointment with your child for 15 to 30 minutes.

Other considerations

Most people who are eligible can be safely immunized against COVID-19, although a very small number of people who have severe allergies to parts of the vaccine may need to speak to their health care provider about options.

My immunization record

When you get immunized, your information will be entered into the electronic Provincial Immunization Registry. You can access your immunization record online through Health Gateway

Proof of Vaccination for COVID-19 is no longer provided by Health Gateway. You do not need Proof of Vaccination in B.C.

Vaccine safety and effectiveness

Health Canada has a thorough approval process to make sure all the vaccines we take are safe and effective.

  • Vaccines are tested extensively before being approved for use
  • Health Canada continues to monitor for vaccine safety after they are introduced in Canada
  • No new major safety concerns have been identified in the data Health Canada reviewed

I need help

I don't have my invitation

You must be registered with the Get Vaccinated system to get an invitation. If you haven't yet received or can't find your invitation:

I don’t have a Personal Health Number (PHN)

Each B.C. resident enrolled with the Medical Services Plan is given a unique lifetime identifier for health care called a Personal Health Number (PHN). Your PHN can be found on your BC Services Card.

Look up or create a PHN.

If you’ve entered the correct PHN but experience issues logging in, please contact the call centre at 1-833-838-2323 for assistance.

I'm not a resident of B.C.

COVID-19 vaccine appointments are prioritized for B.C. residents, particularly those at higher risk of severe illness.

Residents from other provinces and territories in Canada who would like to get vaccinated in B.C. can call the provincial vaccine line 1-833-838-2323 (toll free) to find out which public health units provide immunization to non-B.C. residents and appointment availability.

I want to learn more about COVID-19 in B.C.

Phone the call centre if you have questions about your COVID-19 immunization options and need help booking an appointment. Talk to your health care provider if you have questions about when you should get the vaccine.
